Walter and Louise Sommers Library

The Walter and Louise Sommers Library

Walter Sommers, born in Frankfurt, Germany on December 29, 1920, is a long-time Terre Haute resident and docent at CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center. He is a survivor of Kristallnacht, or the "night of broken glass," an American veteran of WWII, an entrepreneur, and a constant advocate of respect for the rights and freedom for others. Because of his outstanding service to the museum and his dedication to Holocaust education, CANDLES named its library "The Walter and Louise Sommers Library." Walter is an avid reader, referring to himself as a "lifelong student of the Holocaust," and he encourages museum visitors to continuously educate themselves.

Thanks to generous donations over the years, the library now has over 1200 books available to the public. Visit the link below if you are interested in checking out books from our library.
