Indiana's Only Holocaust Museum

In 1995, Eva Mozes Kor opened the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Terre Haute, with a mission to prevent prejudice and hatred through education about the Holocaust. Thousands of people, including many school groups, have visited CANDLES since it opened. In 2003, the museum was destroyed by a hate-filled arsonist. Eva vowed to rebuild, and with the help of a generous public outpouring of support, the museum was rebuilt and reopened in 2005. CANDLES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

    CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center strongly condemns the continued attack on Ukraine.

    As destruction worsens and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, people all over the world are looking for ways to help.

    To help, please consider supporting the following organizations:

    GLOBALGIVING supports non-profits around the world through crowdfunding. Its Ukrainian crisis relief fund is working toward a goal of $7m to provide food, water, shelter, and other assistance to refugees.

    DIRECT RELIEF is working to fulfill a list of medical needs provided to the organization by Ukraine’s health ministry.

    SAMARITANS FEET is working with the American Podiatric Medical Association and CANDLES Board Member Alex Kor - DPM, to send thousands of pairs of athletic shoes, work boots, rain boots, and socks to refugees in various parts of Poland.

    Save the Children, a century-old organization that has worked in 100 countries, has a UKRAINE CRISIS RELIEF FUND aimed at furnishing children and families with food, hygiene kits, funding, and more.

    The WORLD FOOD PROGRAMME, the U.N.’s anti-hunger humanitarian organization, has launched emergency relief operations in Ukraine and surrounding border countries. WFP says it is scaling up to provide food assistance to 3.1 million Ukrainians affected by the conflict and has deployed 400 tons of food to the Ukrainian border this week.

    CANDLES stands with the victims in Ukraine. We pray for the Ukrainian people, the lives lost, and hope for a quick, peaceful end to this crisis. 

 

Current Visitor Hours 

The museum is currently open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm EST.

 * Private group visits are available Monday - Wednesday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm EST. Visits must be scheduled 7-14 days in advance of desired visit date, and a minimum of 15 guests is required. 

 

General admission: $7.00 per person

Group rate (10 or more guests with a reservation made 48 hours prior to visit): $5.00

Any students with ID: $5:00

ISU students with ID, children age 6 and under, veterans: free admission

 

* Museum material is appropriate for middle school grades, age twelve (12) and older.
We do not recommend bringing children under the age of six (6) years old.

For ages 7 - 11, we recommend that parents, guardians, and educators talk with children ahead of time and then take cues from the child before and during their visit - both emotionally and cognitively.

Employee Access, Training and Expectations -- Our organization values, ethical standards, policies and practices are committed to the protection of user information. In general, our business practices limit employee access to confidential information, and limit the use and disclosure of such information to authorized persons, processes and transactions.
  10. How Can You Access and Correct Your Information? You may request access to all your personally identifiable information that we collect online and maintain in our database by emailing us using the contact form provided to you within the site structure of our website.
  11. Do We Disclose Information to Outside Parties? We may provide aggregate information about our customers, sales, website traffic patterns and related website information to our affiliates or reputable third parties, but this information will not include personally identifying data, except as otherwise provided in this privacy policy.

Donation Refund Policy

We are grateful for your donation and support of our organization. If you have made an error in making your donation or change your mind about contributing to our organization please contact us. Refunds are returned using the original method of payment. If you made your donation by credit card, your refund will be credited to that same credit card.

Automated Recurring Donation Cancellation

Ongoing support is important to enabling projects to continue their work, so we encourage donors to continue to contribute to projects over time. But if you must cancel your recurring donation, please notify us.

Return/Refund Policy

Refunds are returned using the original method of payment. If payment was made by credit card, your refund will be credited to that same credit card. Please contact us to discuss any necessary return or refund.

Delivery Standards

Orders are shipped by UPS, FedEx, USPS, or private courier. We will alert you to the planned shipping method and timeframe. If a tracking number is provided by the shipping carrier, we will update your order with the tracking information.
