Dear applicants and guardians,

The Youth Board of CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center is sponsoring a scholarship program for an Indiana high school student to participate in CANDLES’ summer trip to Auschwitz. The 2019 trip will take place June 22 – June 30, 2019. The program enables students to witness the tragedy of the Holocaust and helps them develop a sense of purpose in promoting respect and responsibility in our community. Visiting Auschwitz with a survivor is an unforgettable journey that very few people will have the chance to experience. Now a student will be one of those few.

Eligibility/Application Requirements

High school students in the state of Indiana are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applications from Vigo County residents, but we encourage all to counties to apply. If the applicant will be under age 18 during any portion of the trip, he/she must be accompanied by a chaperone. The chaperone could be an adult relative or teacher, so long as that person is authorized to be the chaperone by the student’s legal guardian. The chaperone is responsible for paying for their own trip participation totaling the amount of $3,950. CANDLES is willing to assist in fundraising along with the chaperone if needed.

All applicants must complete and submit an application by January 11th. Finalists will be contacted for an interview in January 2019 and the final recipient will be notified in February 2019. The selected student will be required to prepare for the trip through readings and research and follow up at the local schools with presentations about their experience.

Please read the Scholarship Application Letter below for expectations and the trip itinerary.
